
Dawn Kum
Dr. Dawn Kum - Leader in Professional Development and Education
With over 30 years of experience in educational administration and professional development, Dr. Dawn Kum is the president of Integrated Urban Solutions in Washington, DC. Since 2003, Dr. Dawn Kum’s organization has consulted with private and public agencies, offering expertise in leadership enhancement, social service programs, and project management. The program has written or managed grants of more than $25 million.
Dr. Kum was the founder and CEO of the Village Academy of Maryland, which taught students with learning and emotional disabilities in grades nine through 12. She oversaw treatments, such as art and occupational therapy, counseling, and speech and language. She played key roles at the Howard University School of Education as an executive director and principal investigator in teacher development programs. In addition, she has been a teacher at the university and public school levels.
Dr. Kum’s extensive academic training began with a BS in food and nutrition from the University of the District of Columbia. She went on to earn a master’s degree in education administration from California State University in Los Angeles and another in curriculum and instruction from Claremont Graduate University. She obtained two doctorates at Claremont, one in urban education and leadership and one in education leadership and policy. While working on her Ph.D., she was a faculty associate in the Office of Teacher Education.
Dr. Kum also serves on the board of directors of Cedar Hill Hospital. In her spare time, she enjoys golf, gardening, traveling, and reading.
